Transmyocardial Revascularization

Effective October 1, 2006, new codes have been created for endoscopic and percutaneous transmyocardial revascularization. Transmyocardial revascularization (TMR) is a procedure that uses a laser to bore holes through the myocardium to restore perfusion to areas of the heart where blood flow may be impaired due to diseased or clogged arteries. It is used to relive severe angina or chest pains in patients who are not suitable candidates for angioplasty or bypass surgery.
