Transvenous Transcatheter Placement of Valve in Inferior Vena Cava
A patient diagnosed with a stenotic aortic valve underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement via the transaortic approach. A mini sternotomy was performed and the surgeon noted large mediastinal lymph nodes, which were sent for pathological analysis. Cannulation sutures were placed in the aorta. The surgeon then accessed the left common femoral artery and the common femoral veins, bilaterally. The catheter was placed in the aortic valve, and needle access through the cannulation port in the aorta was obtained. The wire, catheter and sheath were advanced into the aorta. A balloon aortic valvuloplasty was carried out by passing the valve through the sheath and across the aortic valve. The valve was then deployed with no evidence of any perivalvular leak.
