Zoledronic acid (Reclast®)

The coders at our facility are concerned about the correct reporting of Zoledronic acid (Reclast®). This drug is packaged in a bottle/vial for intravenous infusion. One bottle/vial contains 5 mg of the Zoledronic acid solution. A normal dose of Zoledronic acid is 5 mg, which should only be administered once every 12 months. The dilemma is that according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) drugs should not be reported based on how the drug is packaged, stored, or stocked. So, if a patient receives 5 mg of Zoledronic acid, how would this be correctly reported when the HCPCS code descriptor states Q2051, Injection, zoledronic acid, not otherwise specified, 1 mg? ...
