April 1996 page 8 Coding Communication Advice for Coding a Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Stereotactic localization is a relatively recent advance in breast biopsy. In a stereotactic breast biopsy, at least two mammograms (ie, views) are taken at different angles. These views allow the suspicious area to be localized more accurately. Then, sometimes with computer assistance, a core biopsy needle is introduced into the abnormality to obtain a tissue sample.
