August 2009 pages 3-4 Coding Brief:Peripheral Artery Assessment Noninvasive physiologic peripheral arterial examinations are performed when significant signs and/or symptoms of either upper or lower limb ischemia are present. They assist in the decision whether to perform an invasive therapeutic procedure. Indications for peripheral arterial evaluation may include, but are not limited to the following: Claudication that interferes significantly with the patient's occupation or lifestyle Rest pain (typically in the front part of the foot), usually associated with absent pulses Tissue loss of the extremity (eg, gangrene or pre- gangreneous changes, ischemic ulceration occurring in the absence of pulses)...
