October 1996 page 10c Coding Consultation Maternity Care and Delivery, 59510, 59514 (Q&A) Question A third-party payor informed me that the correct method of coding a surgery assist on a Cesarean section delivery is to code 59510, Routine obstetric care including antepartum care, cesarean delivery, and postpartum care (the -80 modifier appended for the assist). I have always used 59514-80, Cesarean delivery only. Which would be the correct method of coding for the assistant surgeons services?
