September 1998 pages 1-3 Nonneuroembolization Nonneuroembolization refers to therapeutic occlusion of arteries or veins. Materials can be delivered through small catheters (as small as 1 mm or 3 French), to temporarily or permanently stop flow to the area supplied by a blood vessel. Common indications for embolization include life-threatening bleeding in the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, or pelvis. In addition, abnormal arteries, veins or a combination of both (arteriovenous malformations or AVM's) can be treated with embolotherapy.
