Hip Replacement Bearing Surfaces
In October 2005, new codes (00.74-00.76) were created to identify different types of bearing surface materials used in hip prosthetic implants such as metal-on-polyethylene, metal-on-metal, and ceramic-on-ceramic. Effective October 1, 2006, code 00.77, Hip replacement bearing surface, ceramic-on-polyethylene, has been created to capture information on a new bearing surface material being used. As with the previously created hip replacement bearing surface codes, code 00.77 should be assigned as an additional procedure, if the specific type of bearing surface is known.
Code 00.77 may be used with hip replacement procedures (81.51 and 81.52)...
