Coding Consultation:Questions and Answers
Digestive System/Surgery, 46947 (Q&A)
Question
A physician performed a hemorrhoidopexy
by stapling technique, as described
by code 46947, Hemorrhoidopexy (eg, for
prolapsing internal hemorrhoids) by stapling,
and also used a circular anoscope during this
procedure. Would it be appropriate to separately
report for the use of the circular anoscope?
AMA Comment
From a CPT coding perspective,
the use of an anoscope is inclusive to procedure
code 46947. Therefore, it would not be
appropriate to separately report for the use
of an anoscope.
