Question
We are performing both needle and surface electromyography (EMG). Can we report code 95864 for the needle EMG and 95864-52 for the surface EMG? Both procedures are separately interpreted and a report of each test is dictated.

From a CPT coding perspective, surface electromyography should be reported using code 95999, Unlisted neurological or neuromuscular diagnostic procedure, since there is not a specific CPT code to describe this test.
