Coding Critical Care Services in 2023

Critical care services refer to the delivery of medical care to the critically ill or injured patient by a qualified physician or other qualified healthcare professional (QHP). Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) defines a critical illness or injury as one that "acutely impairs one or more vital organ systems such that there is a high probability of imminent or life-threatening deterioration in the patient's condition."
