Diagnosis coding corner: CDC issues new ICD-9 code for partial rotator cuff tear

When a patient has damaged some rotator cuff tendons but not torn all the way through the cuff, you’ll have a new ICD-9-CM code to report beginning Oct. 1 this year: 726.13 (partial tear of rotator cuff). The code is one of many new diagnosis codes released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with the list of final ICD-9 code changes for fiscal year 2012.
