Industry Note: Nondiscrimination Requirements Get More Stringent
You’ll need a new notice of nondiscrimination for your patients, based on a final rule published by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) last month.
The final rule, “Nondiscrimination in Health Programs and Activities,” takes aim at discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Among other areas, the rule addresses “transgender individuals who have experienced discrimination in the health care context [and] often postpone or do not seek needed health care, which may lead to negative health consequences.”
