Letter of Protection

A Letter of Protection (LOP) is an agreement that a patient enters into with their healthcare provider at the initiation of treatment. This special agreement is typically only used in cases involving legal action where an attorney is involved, such as personal injury cases. Its purpose is to ensure that the proceeds of the settlement/verdict will be used to reimburse the provider. While some providers may use their own LOP, while others may request that the patient's attorney draft the LOP.

This sample LOP for the healthcare provider may also be called a "Fee Guarantee Agreement".
