Deprecated Protein [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma by electrophoresis   20577-3

LOINC Code

LOINC code20577-3
nameDeprecated Protein [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma by electrophoresis
descriptionThe quantiative difference in total protein between serum and plasma primarily reflects the amount of fibrinogen present. Because the fibrinogen is a small fraction of the total protein, that difference is probably not clinically significant and SER/PLAS is acceptable.
statusDEPRECATED
status reasonDuplicate - This term with electrophoresis was created under the assumption that the electrophoresis test generated the measure, but it does not. The total protein used in the electrophoresis report is a routine total protein, so the term should really map to the routine serum protein 2885-2.

    Ser  =  Serum
    Plas  =  Plasma
scaleQn  =  Quantitative:  The result of the test is a numeric value that relates to a continuous numeric scale. Reported either as an integer, a ratio, a real number, or a range. The test result value may optionally contain a relational operator from the set {<=, <, >, >=}. Valid values for a quantitative test are of the form "7", "-7", "7.4", "-7.4", "7.8912", "0.125", "<10", "<10.15", ">12000", 1-10, 1:256
