Lateral hip abduction reaction [TIMP]   60724-2

LOINC Code

LOINC code60724-2
nameLateral hip abduction reaction [TIMP]
descriptionPosition: The examiner places the infant in sidelying position, head aligned with trunk and cradled in the examiner's hand. The underneath leg is maintained in hip flexion while the top leg is maintained in hip extension but allowed movement into abduction. If the child can hold his own head, the examiner supports the child at the shoulder. Omit on children with no upright head control (score = 0). Procedure: The examiner laterally flexes the infant's head several times to initiate lateral head righting (or laterally flexes the trunk from the shoulder if the infant can laterally right his own head). The examiner must maintain the hip of the upper leg in extension while the lower leg is kept in flexion and must not allow the infant to use the hands or arms to grasp or to lean upon the support surface. Reactions in the neck, trunk, and lower extremity are observed as the upper body is lowered rapidly.
