| description | This is a questionnaire to assess posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an anxiety disorder characterized by reliving a terrifying event- such as violent personal assaults, natural or human-caused disasters, accidents, or military combat - and avoiding associated situations (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). This measure is used to screen an individual for the presence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Posttraumatic stress disorder has a lifetime prevalence around 8% in adults and is associated with higher rates of depression, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse. Posttraumatic stress disorder displays evidence of a heritable component and is linked to a family history of depression (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). | ||
