nameHIV 1 and 2 Ab [Identifier] in Serum or Plasma by Rapid immunoassay
descriptionTest is a rapid enzyme immunoassay used as a diagnostic aid for the detection and differentiation of HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies in serum or plasma. This code is based on, but not limited to, BIO-RAD's Multispot HIV-1/HIV-2 Rapid Test, which was approved in June of 2012 by the FDA for distinguishing HIV-1 from HIV-2 and is being considered as a replacement for Immune blot for the confirmation of positive HIV EIA tests by routine methods. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

propertyPrid  =  Presence or identity:  Prid stands for “Presence or identity”, is used for assays that detect whether or not an analyte of a particular kind is present, and if it is, to identify the specific analyte.
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.

change reasonThe EIA method, which was always intended to cover more than just enzyme-linked immunoassay and whose display name for the long common name has always been Immunoassay, was renamed IA in order to eliminate ambiguity about whether the method has a broader meaning than just enzyme-linked immunoassay. Likewise, EIA.rapid was renamed IA.rapid. These changes were approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
