These body regions are: 1) Head or neck - including cervical spine, 2) Face - including the facial skeleton, nose, mouth, eyes and ears, 3) Chest - thoracic spine and diaphragm, 4) Abdomen or pelvic contents - abdominal organs and lumbar spine, 5) Extremities or pelvic girdle - pelvic skeleton, and 6) External. The ISS is calculated using the three most severely injured ISS body regions.
