nameEbola Zaire virus RNA [Presence] in Plasma or Blood by NAA with probe detection
descriptionThe Ebola Zaire PCR assay presumptively detects Ebola Zaire virus, a single-stranded RNA virus identified in the 2014 West Africa outbreak. The assay is used for testing individuals with signs and symptoms of Ebola virus infection, those who are at risk for or may have been exposed to the Ebola Zaire virus, or in accordance with current public health recommendations. The definitive identification of the Ebola Zaire virus requires additional testing and confirmation procedures in consultation with public health. This term was developed for, but is not limited to, use with the Ebola Zaire Target 1 (EZ1) real-time reverse transcription (rRT) polymerase chain reaction (TaqMan®) assay (EZ1 assay), which is run on plasma or whole blood specimens. As of August 2014, the EZ1 assay is approved for use under an FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) [http://www.fda.gov/downloads/MedicalDevices/Safety/EmergencySituations/UCM408334.pdf] by specified laboratories and clinical laboratory personnel who have been trained on instruments authorized by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Fully-Specified Name

componentEbola Zaire virus RNA
propertyPrThr  =  Present or threshold:  The Property PrThr stands for “Presence or Threshold”, meaning either a) the actual presence or absence of an analyte, or b) that the amount of analyte detected is over some predetermined threshold.
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
systemPlas/Bld
    Plas  =  Plasma
    Bld  =  Whole blood
scaleOrd  =  Ordinal:  Ordered categorical responses, e.g., 1+, 2+, 3+; positive, negative; reactive, indeterminate, nonreactive.

Associated Observations

LOINC codes that represent optional associated observation(s) for a clinical observation or laboratory test. A LOINC term may represent a single associated observation or panel containing several associated observations.

last change typeMIN  - change to field other than name
change reasonThe PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
