Allogeneic Donor Lymphocyte Infusion

Coding Clinic First Quarter 2009 recommended code 41.05, Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant without purging, to describe an allogeneic donor lymphocyte infusion. However, upon further review by the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) for Coding Clinic along with input from a national clinical expert, it was determined that code 99.09, Transfusion of other substance, is more appropriate. Code 41.05 describes a stem cell transplant, and the procedure does not involve transfusion of stem cells nor bone marrow.
