Note: As of October 1, 1996, codes 51.21 and 51.24 have been added to indicate other partial cholecystectomy (51.21) and laparoscopic partial cholecystectomy (51.24).Upon review of this topic, the term "laser" should probably be displayed as "laparoscopic". A new code has been provided to differentiate a cholecystectomy performed by a laser approach (51.23) from one performed by an open approach (51.22).
