Reporting guidance for hyperbaric oxygen therapy

Since January 1, 2015 hospitals were instructed by CMS to report HCPCS code G0277, Hyperbaric oxygen under pressure, full body chamber, per 30 minute interval, for hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves the breathing of pure oxygen in a pressurized room or tube. A treatment established for decompression sickness is now utilized in the treatment of other conditions such as air or gas embolism, burns, wounds that have not healed with other treatment. Treatment with hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides a higher than normal air pressure allowing the lungs to gather and transport more oxygen to the organs...
