Services provided to diagnose pregnancy are to be reported separately and not considered a part of antepartum care given to the patient. Be sure to report the E/M visits separately as of the 2015 revised guidelines.
The services normally provided in uncomplicated maternity cases include antepartum care, delivery as well as postpartum care. For a preventative visit or problem orientated be sure to report using the appropriate E/M service codes.
The new guidelines also state antepartum includes the initial prenatal history and exam as well as subsequent prenatal history and physical exams. There has been no changes to the delivery service guideline and includes the hospital admission, admission history and Physical Exam.
