Annual and Lifetime Limits

In the 2016 ChiroCode Deskbook, learn about how the 2014 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) changed insurance coverage policies!

Beginning January 1, 2014, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) changed the rules regarding annual and lifetime limits. Insurance companies can no longer set lifetime limits on “Essential Health Benefits” (EHB) as long as the patient is enrolled in that plan. Even though there are no longer lifetime limits on EHBs, there can be a yearly limit of $2 million.

Keep in mind that currently existing plans, which have not undergone substantial changes, are “grandfathered” and will not be covered under these new rules. It should be noted that the number of grandfathered plans has been steadily decreasing.
