E&M Guidelines with NGS is Not Mandatory

Changes with the 1995 Documentation Guidelines for Evaluation and Management services are not considered mandatory. NGS had originally planned a change in examination requirements for "Expanded Problem Focused" and "Detailed" levels of service. The decision to not mandate the changes was due to feedback and multiple provider queries from NGS providers. All medical records that are reviewed will be subject to the original standard of 2-7 or the newly suggested levels of 2-5 and 6-7, depending on the manner that is more beneficial to NGS providers.

See NGS's Evaluation & Management Documentation Training tool.
