Don't do that!
The 7th character must always be the 7th character in the data field. If a code requires a 7th character and there is only 6 characters, a placeholder "X" must be used to fill in the empty characters. Without the place holder, the code is considered invalid.
Example:
Incorrect codes:
S00.00 Unspecified superficial injury of scalp
S00.00A Unspecified superficial injury of scalp
Below is a Correct or Complete code:
Unspecified superficial injury of scalp, initial encounter |
Remember:
You may be using the placeholder "X" to complete a code. Be sure there are always the correct characters required for the code set you are using.
