namePNH GPI-Linked WBC and RBC Ag Panel - Blood
descriptionThe tests in this panel detect glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked proteins including CD14 for monocytes, CD16 and 24 for granulocytes, and CD59 for erythrocytes. In addition, fluorescent aerolysin (FLAER) which selectively binds to GPI anchor proteins, is also used to detect the presence or absence of those anchors. Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired hematologic disorder of erythroid, granulocytic, and megakaryocytic cell lines. The abnormal cells in PNH are missing the GPI-linked proteins due to mutations in the phosphatidylinositol glycan A gene (PIGA).
