CMS releases the 2002 conversion factor for hospital OPPS
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released an updated conversion factor which is used to determine payment rates under the OPPS for calendar year 2002 in the November 2, 2001 Federal Register. The increase factor of 2.3 percent for 2002 coupled with the required wage index budget neutrality adjustment of 0.9936 resulted in a final conversion factor for 2002 of $50.904.
