Correct Reporting of Biologicals Used as Implantable Devices
Hospitals should report the appropriate HCPCS code for the product when products are utilized as either a surgically implanted or inserted biological or as a skin substitute. Units of service should be reported in multiples of the units included in the HCPCS code descriptor. Hospitals and providers should not report the units based on the way the implantable biological is packaged, stored, or stocked, if different from the HCPCS code descriptor.
