Category III codes are released each year in January by the American Medical Association, for implementation the following July, and in July, for implementation beginning the following January. Since July 2012 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented several Category III codes. The new Category III CPT codes were implemented on July 1, 2012, and are listed below.
