Certolizumab pegol, trade name Cimzia, is a therapeutic monoclonal antibody utilized in the treatment of Crohn’s disease. It is administered via subcutaneous injections in the abdomen or thigh. This drug was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on April 22, 2008. A new HCPCS code was created by CMS for the certolizumab pegol injection. This code became effective April 1, 2009.
