Respiratory syncytial virus with new CPT Category I code

Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus (RSV) is a respiratory virus that affects the lungs and airways. RSV is part of the Paramyxoviridae family of viruses and is closely related to the measles, mumps, and parainfluenza viruses. Infection with RSV can result in damage to the epithelial cells that line the upper respiratory tract where the cells tend to fuse together forming large multinucleated epithelial structures — syncytia, from which the current name derives.
