However, he has recurrent pain and pain in his digits specifically with walking. The patient undergoes revision of the first fusion and a new fusion of the third proximal interphalangeal joint. In the CPT codebook, there is a note under code 28760, Arthrodesis, with extensor hallucis longus transfer to first metatarsal neck, great toe, interphalangeal joint, directs the coder to use 28285, Correction, hammertoe, for hammertoe operation or interphalangeal fusion.
