Revision of HCPCS code descriptors for cardiac echocardiography
The long and short HCPCS code descriptors for cardiac echocardiography with contrast services have been revised by CMS. Revisions of the code descriptors will now appropriately reflect those services that either use contrast or are performed without contrast followed by the use of contrast. These codes should be reported for echocardiograms with contrast with the appropriate units of the HCPCS codes for the contrast agents utilized in the performance of the echocardiograms. Report separately the contrast HCPCS Q-code(s) associated with these services. Figure 1 (page 9) lists the revised long and short HCPCS code descriptors for the cardiac echocardiography...
