Effective October 1, 2004, code 796.6, Abnormal findings on neonatal screening, has been created to identify nonspecific abnormal findings on neonatal screening. Newborns are routinely screened for several metabolic conditions. Blood sampling for neonatal screening is usually performed via a heel stick. If the results of the initial screening are outside the normal range, further testing may be required in order to confirm or refute a specific diagnosis.
