Article Overview

This article is a short medical coding and clinical reference focused on acute respiratory distress and its distinction from acute respiratory distress syndrome. It is relevant to coders, billers, CDI staff, and clinicians who need a clear overview of the respiratory and critical-care context surrounding these terms. The article discusses symptom patterns, common associated conditions, and why the terminology matters for accurate diagnosis reporting and code selection.

Why This Topic Matters

Clear separation of similarly named respiratory conditions supports more accurate documentation review and diagnosis coding, especially when critical illness or hypoxemia is involved.
