Amyloidosis

Effective October 1, 2006, code 277.3, Amyloidosis, has been expanded and unique codes created for amyloidosis not otherwise specified (277.30), familial Mediterranean fever (277.31) and other amyloidosis (277.39). The new codes will allow differentiation between these distinct conditions. Amyloidosis is a group of disorders in which insoluble proteins (amyloid) accumulate in various tissues and organs, impairing organ function. The main organs affected generally include the heart, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system and skin. Amyloidosis of the skin is also referred as cutaneous amyloidosis.
