Effective October 1, 2010, codes 488.0, Influenza due to identified avian influenza virus and 488.1, Influenza due to identified novel H1N1 influenza virus, have been expanded and new codes created to allow data capture of the manifestations of avian and H1N1 influenza. Prior to this revision, codes 488.0 and 488.1 did not provide the additional specification as codes under category 487, Influenza.
