Bilateral Escharotomy of Leg, Thigh and Foot

A patient with circumferential burns and no pedal pulses underwent bilateral escharotomies of the lower leg and upper thigh as well as bilateral escharotomies of both feet down to the level of the fascia. Article Overview

This premium article addresses ICD-10-PCS coding for escharotomy procedures performed on the lower legs, thighs, and feet after circumferential burns. It is aimed at inpatient coding professionals, CDI specialists, and other clinicians who code burn-related operative procedures, and it explains the general procedural classification issues involved in selecting the appropriate root operation.

Why This Topic Matters

Escharotomy coding can affect procedure reporting for burn care cases and requires understanding how the procedure is represented in ICD-10-PCS. Accurate identification of the coding framework matters for inpatient facility coding and documentation review.
