Effective October 1, 2007, new E codes have been created to identify the adverse effects in therapeutic use of oral and intravenous bisphosphonates. Bisphosphonates (also diphosphonates) is a class of drugs that inhibits the resorption of bone. They are used in the prevention and treatment of Paget’s disease of the bone, osteoporosis, metastatic bone cancer, multiple myeloma and other conditions that involve fragile bones.
