Effective October 1, 2005, code 37.41, Implantation of prosthetic cardiac support device around the heart, has been created for reporting the implantation of a cardiac support device (CSD). Another term indexed for this device is CorCap. The CSD is a mesh knit material that is wrapped around the ventricles. This permanent implant reduces the stress against the walls of the heart that occurs with heart failure. It also alleviates dilation of the heart muscle, preventing further progression of the disease and reverses the remodeling process of the heart failure.
