An NCCI edit is produced when these procedures are reported separately. Therefore, can modifier 59 be appended based on the procedures and the diagnosis codes? ...

Article Overview
This premium article addresses a hand surgery coding scenario involving thumb carpometacarpal arthroplasty with additional procedures at the metacarpophalangeal joint and trapezoid bone. It focuses on how the case is presented for coding review, the presence of an NCCI edit, and the broader issue of when separate reporting and modifier use are being considered. The content is most relevant to orthopedic, hand surgery, and coding professionals reviewing CPT-based reporting questions.
