Code V02.9, Carrier or suspected carrier of infectious diseases, Other specified infectious organism, should not be assigned if the physician's diagnostic statement states that the patient is HIV positive. In other contagious diseases (e.g., typhoid, code V02.1, Typhoid) the person can transmit the disease but may be asymptomatic. This is not the case with HIV. Once the patient has tested positive they are themselves infected and can also transmit the disease. Assign code V08, Asymptomatic human immunodeficiency virus [HIV], for these cases. ...
