Effective October 1, 2011, two new codes have been created to identify uterine artery embolization with coils (68.24) and without coils (68.25). Previously, uterine artery embolization was assigned code 99.29, Injection or infusion of other therapeutic or prophylactic substance. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a procedure that is used to stop severe pelvic bleeding caused by trauma, malignant gynecological tumors and hemorrhage after childbirth.
