Excision of Ulceration of Arteriovenous Fistula

This same patient was found to have an ulcerated area of the arteriovenous (AV) fistula at the cannulation site, extending through the skin to the vessel wall into the cephalic vein portion of the fistula. The surgeon noted that this was the reason for the bleeding. An elliptical incision was made around this abnormal tissue, extending through both the skin and the vascular wall.
