External Cause of Injury Codes for Falls
Additional E codes have been created to specifically identify falls from roller skates, skateboards, skis and snowboards. Prior to October 1, 2000, external cause of injury coding for falls due to these devices had not been specific. In-line skates (roller blades) and skateboards are the cause of many accidents, primarily among children and adolescents. The new E-codes should improve data reporting for these injuries. Note: As of October 1, 2002, code E885.0 was created to report falls from non-motorized scooters.
