Fetal Conditions
Effective October 1, 2008, new codes have been created to identify conditions affecting a fetus in utero. Code 678.0x, Fetal hematologic conditions, includes fetal anemia, fetal thrombocytopenia and fetal twin to twin transfusion. Fetal anemia is a low red blood cell count in the fetus. The fetus can develop anemia because the red blood cells (RBCs) are not forming properly or the RBCs are being destroyed faster then they are produced.
