Code R51, Headache, has been expanded and two new codes have been created as noted below:R51.0 Headache with orthostatic component, not elsewhere classified R51.9 Headache unspecified The change will allow the codes to differentiate headaches with an orthostatic component. These headaches, also known as positional headache, postural headache or orthostatic headache occur within 30 seconds after assuming the erect posture and subside completely when the patient lies flat. It is most commonly seen after lumbar puncture, but it can also be a common symptom of intracranial hypotension, although not all patients with intracranial hypotension complain of headaches...
