Implantation of Automatic Cardioverter Defibrillator

The implantable automatic cardioverter defibrillator is an electronic device designed to detect and treat life-threatening tachyarrhythmias. The device consists of a pulse generator and electrodes for sensing and defibrillating. Implantation of the device system is indicated in patients who are at high risk for sudden cardiac death due to ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
